This one-hour educational session is a combination of didactic presentation and audience participation that traces a history of siloed financing, task-based regulations and benefit carve-outs to provide context for a fragmented healthcare system and the consequences on patient care, including examples specific to Virginia. The session will then highlight success stories and current promising trends in policy and care models that are producing compassionate, high-quality care. Using contemporary data and case vignettes, this session will connect structural decisions with patient care and clinician burnout, as well as offer recommendations on opportunities for clinicians to lead meaningful systemic improvements while improving their own well-being.
