Medical Ethics Dinner

This year’s Medical Ethics Dinner will feature two prominent speakers in UVA Health - Dr. Taison Bell and Dr. Beth Epstein. Our speakers will highlight ethical case studies they have encountered throughout their careers, and attendees will subsequently debate these moral and ethical questions in small groups. Additionally, a catered dinner will be provided by Noodles & Company including a full pasta bar with dietary options.

Featured Speakers:

  • Dr. Taison Bell (MD, MBA)

Dr. Taison Bell is an Associate Professor of Medicine in Infectious Disease, International Health, and Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at UVA. He is also the Vice Chair for Faculty Affairs in the Department of Medicine, directs the UVA Summer Medical Leadership Program, and sits on the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services Committee. Dr. Bell was awarded the Inpatient Attending of the Year Award in 2018, was the keynote graduation speaker at final exercises in 2022, and is a UVA alumnus. While he earned his undergraduate degree from UVA, Dr. Bell went on to complete his medical degree at Columbia followed by residency at Massachusetts General Hospital and infectious disease fellowship at the combined Massachusetts General and Brigham and Women’s Hospital Program.

  • Dr. Beth Epstein (PhD, RN, HEC-C, FAAN)

Dr. Beth Epstein is an Associate Professor and Associate Dean of Academic Programs in the School of Nursing at UVA. She is a core member of the Center for Health Humanities and Ethics, and an affiliate faculty member of the UVA Jewish Studies Department. Dr. Epstein is recognized internationally for her work in bioethics and moral distress, and directs UVA Health’s moral distress consult service.
