WHAT’S ART GOT TO DO WITH IT? MEDICAL EDUCATION IN THE MUSEUM
Ray Williams M.A., Ed.M.
Director of Art Education and Academic Affairs, Blanton Museum of Art
University of Texas-Austin
With the encouragement of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), medical schools around the country are building relationships with their local art museums. Museum educator Ray Williams has worked for more than a decade with medical students, residents, and clinicians at both Harvard and the University of Texas-Austin. In this talk, Williams will use stunning images and incisive teaching stories to make the case for the art museum as a site for developing clinical skills, furthering narrative competence, improving interprofessional teamwork, and cultivating in health professionals a sense of purpose and wellbeing.
This Hook Lecture is co-sponsored by the Center for Health Humanities and Ethics in the School of Medicine and UVA’s Fralin Museum of Art, which jointly offer Clinician’s Eye workshops and other museum-based programs for health professionals
